Allow me to introduce the Small Talk team…

Hello Everyone! My name is Caroline DeRoche-Turner, Owner of Small Talk. I wanted to tell you a little about myself and give some background on who I am and why I started Small Talk. I graduated from UMaine in 2018 with a bachelors in Elementary Education, a concentration in English, and a minor/endorsement in English as a Second Language. Throughout college I worked as a Nursery Supervisor with children 0-5 years old. After graduating, I worked for four years in the Bangor School System up until I gave birth to my daughter, Wren. Three months after Wren was born, my husband, Paul, left for a year-long deployment to Iraq. I felt isolated in my new role as a mother, and I found myself wishing there was a place for new families to connect to one another. And thus, the idea for Small Talk was born!

This is my mother, Brenda DeRoche! She has been a teacher for over 35 years, 20 of which she has spent teaching kindergarten. She has an associates in Human Services, a bachelors in Child Development and Family Relations, and a masters in Literacy. When she isn’t being the world’s best grandmother, she is using her decades of experience to assist me in creating curriculum for Small Talk that will help develop and strengthen foundational skills for children before entering kindergarten.

Finally, this is my amazing husband, Paul, the multi-talented superhero behind the scenes at Small Talk! When Paul isn’t flying helicopters or planes for the Army, or being a mortgage loan originator for the Hive Mortgage, he is hard at work being the world’s best father and husband. Pretty much everything you see at Small Talk has been built or assembled by Paul. You may catch him behind the desk at Small Talk, helping out with projects, or hanging out with our children!
